Prayer and Liturgy

 Our School Prayer

May our community of Sacred Heart always treat everyone with kindness, respect, and love.
Let us value and appreciate each person we meet, whether at school or outside.
May our actions reflect our care and love for one another.
Grant us the ambition to achieve our best and the spirit of service to help others.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, Christ is at the centre of every decision we make. As we aim to develop the whole person, we believe Prayer and Liturgy to be an integral part of that endeavour. As one of the key elements of school life, our Prayer and Liturgy stems from Catholic tradition and is rooted in the Gospel values, reflecting our school values each and every day.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, we have a daily prayer life. Daily Prayer and Liturgy takes place each morning during form time. Form teachers pray with their forms each morning, using quality resources provided by our school Chaplain, Hannah. In addition to this daily prayer, all students also receive weekly opportunities to part-take in whole year group Prayer and Liturgy assemblies. These Prayer and Liturgy assemblies are written by our student led Prayer and Liturgy group, to ensure our students are experiencing a prayer life they want, and not a prayer life we think they want. Each weeks liturgy leader will attend the Prayer and Liturgy group meeting to work in collaboration with them.

These daily and weekly times of prayer offer students and staff opportunities for reflection, silence and conversation with Christ. We believe starting our day off in this way sets students off on the right foot, each and every morning, to learn and to be the best person they can be.

Pupils and staff at SHCA have access to a wide range of opportunities for Prayer and Liturgy. Some of these are:

- Year 7 Welcome Mass

- Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers Mass

- Advent Liturgies

- Lenten Liturgies

- Daily Form Prayer and Liturgy

- Weekly Prayer and Liturgy Assemblies

- Christmas Liturgies

- Feast Day Masses

- Ash Wednesday Services

- Sacrament of Confirmation

- End of term/year celebrations

- Weekly Staff Mass

- Holy Days of Obligation

- Retreat Days and more

SHCA ensure to mark particular moments of both joy and sorrow throughout the year. During the month of November, Hannah, our Chaplain, created a remembrance book that was available in our Romero Chapel every break and lunch throughout the month of November. Students and staff were provided with the opportunity for some silent prayer and reflection.
